Inflation monitor: Angola at 14% as price pressures moderate
The latest reading shows consumer price growth moderating — the key input for the BNA ahead of its next rate decision on 21 September 2026.
Consumer price inflation in Angola stands at 14% year on year in the latest reading tracked by CBAN, easing from 15% in the prior reading.
The moderation gives the Banco Nacional de Angola more room for manoeuvre around its 17.5% policy rate. Across African consumer price baskets, food and non-alcoholic beverages typically carry the largest weight, followed by housing, utilities and transport — which is why harvests and fuel prices move headline inflation more here than in advanced economies.
Currency dynamics feed directly into the outlook. The Angolan kwanza trades near 912 to the dollar, down 3.7% this year — a headwind that keeps imported costs elevated.
Real GDP growth is running at around 2.8%, and official reserves stand near $14.7 billion. The next scheduled BNA rate decision is 21 September 2026.
